What is a PMHNP?

A Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, or PMHNP, is an advanced practice registered nurse with specialized training in psychiatric and mental health care. A board-certified PMHNP can evaluate symptoms, diagnose psychiatric conditions, provide treatment planning, and prescribe medications when appropriate under applicable state law.

What happens during the first appointment?
Your first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. Your provider will review your symptoms, health history, medications, mental health history, safety concerns, and treatment goals. The visit may also include diagnostic discussion, medication recommendations, therapy referrals, or a care plan for next steps.
How long is the first appointment?
Initial psychiatric evaluations typically last 60–90 minutes. Follow-up visits usually last 20–40 minutes depending on clinical need.
Do you provide therapy?
EscapeMind Psychiatry primarily provides psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management. Brief supportive counseling and psychoeducation may be included during visits when appropriate. If ongoing therapy is recommended, referrals can be provided to licensed therapists or community resources.
Do you prescribe medication?
Yes. Medication may be prescribed when clinically appropriate after evaluation. Your provider will discuss potential benefits, risks, side effects, alternatives, and follow-up recommendations.
Do you treat adolescents?
Yes. EscapeMind Psychiatry serves patients ages 12 and older. For adolescent patients, parent or guardian involvement and consent are required.
Do you see older adults?

Yes. Older adults may receive psychiatric evaluation and medication management with attention to medical history, medication interactions, cognitive concerns, and coordination with other healthcare providers when appropriate.

Is telehealth available?
Yes. Secure video visits are available for eligible patients located in Florida at the time of the appointment. Telehealth may not be suitable for every clinical situation, and your provider will discuss whether it is appropriate for your care.
What conditions do you treat?
EscapeMind Psychiatry evaluates and treats a range of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, sleep concerns, psychotic spectrum disorders, substance use concerns when appropriate, and behavioral or emotional changes related to medical illness.
Do you accept insurance?
EscapeMind Psychiatry accepts selected insurance plans, including Cigna, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Empire Blue Cross, Oxford, Oscar, and Carelon plans. Coverage depends on your specific plan, so patients should verify benefits directly with their insurance company before scheduling.
What should I bring to my first visit?
Please bring a government-issued photo ID, insurance card, current medication list, pharmacy information, prior psychiatric or medical records if available, and a payment method for copay or self-pay balance.
What if I need urgent help?
EscapeMind Psychiatry is not an emergency or crisis service. If you are in immediate danger or experiencing a psychiatric emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. For mental health crisis support, call or text 988.
Is my information private?
EscapeMind Psychiatry follows HIPAA and applicable privacy laws. Your protected health information is not shared without written authorization except as required or permitted by law.
Can you coordinate with my therapist or doctor?
Yes, care coordination may be available with your permission. Written consent is usually required before information can be shared with another provider.
Can I choose medication management only?

Many patients come for medication management, while others may benefit from a combination of medication, therapy, lifestyle changes, and care coordination. Your provider will discuss the most appropriate plan after evaluation.
